Hair loss in your 30s — when to worry, when to wait
Not every shed is a problem. Here are signs to act on, and signs to be patient with.
It's normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. The problem starts when shedding exceeds that, or when hair gets visibly thinner without obvious shedding.
Signs that call for testing
Continuous shedding for more than 3 months, scalp visible through the parting, a receding hairline, or circular bald patches. Any of these warrants a blood panel and magnified scalp exam.
Signs that call for patience
Sudden shedding after a stressful stretch, a fever, or low iron after a strict diet. This is usually telogen effluvium and resolves in 4-6 months without treatment.
What we test for
Ferritin (iron stores), TSH for thyroid, Vitamin D, B12, and if there's hormonal suspicion DHEAS and Testosterone. All of this before any injection or treatment.
When does PRP help?
PRP is highly effective for early male and female pattern hair loss, but it needs at least 6 sessions to show real results. It's not a magic shot and never a one-off.
A supportive home routine
Sulfate-free shampoo, two minutes of finger-tip scalp massage at every wash, avoiding tight ties, and limiting heat tools to three times a week max.
Most important advice: don't delay testing. Shedding caught at month three is much easier to treat than shedding that reaches us at month twelve.
